Welcome to my online portfolio. Here’s the inside scoop.  Don’t tell anyone, but I’m not a real artist.  Besides an "Intro to Watercolor" class in college, I don't have any real training in the arts.  I’m a civil engineer by day, so art/design has always been a side-hobby when I need a break from number-crunching.

A year ago, I decided that drawing/painting once per year was not enough!  I made a goal to have at least one project in the works at all times.  I’ve also decided to leave my comfort zone and enter some art walks and animation competitions.  It has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

I have always aspired to be an artist, but only recently did I decide that I WAS GOING TO BECOME AN ARTIST, whatever that means.  So where do I start?  I’m not really sure.  What I do know is that it requires a fair amount of confidence and hard work to be taken seriously as an artist.  My biggest hurdle thus far has been asserting myself as a legitimate artist, so what better way to get over it than by buying a url with “artist” in the name?  I don’t have any delusions of grand fame or wealth.  My biggest goal is to pay for my art supply/software buying habit so I can continue to produce art.

I’m happy that you’ve found this site.  If you are interested in commissioning either a painting or flash animation, please contact me at theupstartist@gmail.com
